Phish to Perform Benefit Concerts for Ludlow Recovery Center

Burlington-based jam band Phish has announced a three-show performance at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York, from October 25-27, 2023. Proceeds from these concerts will support the Divided Sky Residential Recovery Program in Ludlow, a facility established by Phish’s lead singer, Trey Anastasio, aimed at helping individuals overcome addiction.

The 46-bed center utilizes the 12-step program from Alcoholics Anonymous and promotes a holistic approach, including activities like nature walks and yoga as part of treatment. Anastasio’s decision to create Divided Sky stems from his personal battle with opioid addiction, which began following his 2006 arrest that led to a 14-month court-mandated treatment stint. His recovery journey inspired him to establish a facility alongside his former case manager, Melanie Gulde, who now serves as the program director.

Despite the program’s noble intentions, Anastasio faced local backlash in Ludlow due to concerns about potential negative impacts, such as increased drug use and crime. After the town approved construction, local residents appealed the decision, leading Divided Sky to open as a nonmedical facility in November 2023, emphasizing out-of-pocket payments and scholarships instead of insurance billing.

The proceeds from the upcoming Phish shows are crucial for funding scholarships, allowing the center to maintain its immersive recovery resources. The cost of the 30-day program is $7,500 without financial assistance. Ticket sales for the benefit concert will commence on September 20, 2023, at 10 a.m., with a limited number of complimentary tickets reserved for professionals in recovery and mental health fields.
