Writing During Genocide: Gaza, Collective Trauma, and the Stages of Destruction
What does it mean to write about genocide while your own family, friends, and community are living through it?
Please join the Windham World Affairs Council on Friday, October 30, for an important and deeply personal conversation with Dr. Ayman Nijim, a Palestinian scholar from Gaza whose work explores liberation psychology, collective trauma, and the human consequences of violence and displacement.
Writing During Genocide: Gaza, Collective Trauma, and the Stages of Destruction
Drawing on doctoral research written as the destruction of Gaza unfolded, Dr. Nijim will share insights from both his scholarship and lived experience. His work challenges us to think beyond trauma as an individual experience and consider how violence, oppression, and displacement affect entire communities across generations.
Through a moderated conversation and audience discussion, we will explore questions of collective trauma, resilience, justice, and what it means to bear witness to suffering while it is still unfolding.
At a time when these questions could not be more urgent, we hope you will join us for an evening of thoughtful dialogue, learning, and reflection.
