Woodworking Tool Essentials: Sharpening

July 13 @ 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

$100

Anyone can sharpen their tools, it just takes a little practice and a simple, inexpensive kit to get you going. Learn a straightforward method that uses a simple sharpening guide and lapping film to achieve lovely, sharp cutting edges.

Learn. Students will be given a quick answer to the question of “what is sharp” and what is the quickest way to get blades to that state. You’ll start by modifying an inexpensive sharpening guide for better performance, then make a simple blade setting jig to use with your guide. Next, you’ll use our grinder to get an initial, hollow, bevel on your blade(s), then use a practical method using lapping films to efficiently keep blades sharp.

Students will leave the class with a sharpening guide, a blade setting jig, a squirt bottle, and 3 strips of self adhesive lapping film. With these tools and a flat polished stone, you’ll be able to set up a sharpening system for yourself at home. Bring in dull chisels or plane blades of your own, and they’ll go home sharp!
