Join us for an immersive week-long woodworking experience where you’ll create two beautiful and functional pieces: a professional-quality cutting board and an elegant Shaker side table with a drawer. Designed for beginners, this class helps you develop fundamental woodworking skills while completing projects you’ll be proud to display in your home.
This special workshop is led by guest teaching artist Char Miller-King, a renowned woodworker and educator from Atlanta, Georgia. With her approachable teaching style and extensive experience guiding beginners through their first woodworking projects, Char creates a supportive environment where questions are encouraged and creativity flourishes.
Learn. This is a true beginners class, covering:
– Milling Techniques: Transform rough lumber into precise, square pieces using essential woodshop machines (table saw, miter saw, jointer, planer)
– Joinery Methods: Learn classic methods of for joining pieces together to create strong, lasting furniture
– Surface Preparation: Gain skills with hand and power tools to achieve smooth, professional finishes.
– Finishing Applications: Apply food-safe finishes for the cutting board and classic oil-varnish blends for the table
Make. Students will first make a cutting board, then a Shaker-style table with a drawer, from their choice of cherry or maple hardwood.
5 SESSIONS: Monday through Friday, June 16 – 20 | 9am – 5pm | Class will break for a 45-minute lunch each day.
