16th annual Domino Toppling Extravaganza returns to Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) on Sunday, October 8, at 5:30 p.m.
Carve an image of your choice onto wood, then make multiple, fine wood block prints using a traditional printmaking press. This class is offered together with Brattleboro’s community printmaking studio, First Proof Press!
Learn. This 2-session class takes place at both HatchSpace and First Proof Press, with a few weeks in between to complete your wood block carving at home.
Session 1 at HatchSpace (March 4): You’ll learn how to transfer an image of your choice onto wood blocks, then how to tint (prep) the block for carving. Next, you’ll learn proper tool handling and carving techniques, as well as how to sharpen hand tools using a honing strip. Carving work begun in class will be completed at home, using your own versatile carving tool (included).
Session 2 at First Proof Press (March 25): This session begins with a discussion and demo of a traditional printing press. You’ll then learn how to ink your wood block, and how to set up and run your prints through thre press.
Make. Each student will carve one (1) 18″ x 24″ wood block, and make three (3) high quality prints on archival paper.
