Mastering Mortise and Tenon Joinery | Jun 22 & 23
Experience Level: Beginner to Intermediate
The mortise and tenon is the unsung hero—the hidden workhorse—of fine furniture design. Strong, reliable, and time-tested, this essential joint is the backbone of countless woodworking projects. In this class, you’ll learn a practical and repeatable approach to creating tight, precise mortise and tenon joints using a blend of common woodshop machines and hand tools.
Learn. In this 2-day intensive, students will learn how to:
- Lay out and mark mortises with marking gauges
- Drill mortises on the drill press
- Lay out and mark tenons with marking gauges
- Cut tenons on the table saw
- Cut and fit tenons to mortises using the bandsaw and chisels
Make. Students will bring home a series of mortise and tenon joints.
Bring: Participants are welcome to bring in their own hand tools, such as marking or bevel gauges, combination squares, chisels, etc. or we will have plenty to share.
2 SESSIONS: June 22 & 23
Monday & Tuesday | 10am – 5pm | Class will break for a 1/2 hour lunch each day.
Cost: $390 non-members: $331.50 members (plus an additional $20 materials fee.)
