Looking for a unique summer camp experience for your child? This is it: Kids build their own skateboards at HatchSpace then head downstairs to Brattleboro’s First Proof Press to design and apply custom artwork to their boards. A rad maker project for grades 6-12. Open to the public.
Students will carve a mold out of foam blanks, then learn how to sort and glue up seven layers of maple veneer. Veneer and foam “stacks” are then laminated overnight using a vacuum press bag. Next, students cut, shape and sand their decks using a bandsaw and power sanders, decorate their boards with custom artwork, and then attach wheel sets as the final step.
For those who are interested, registration is also open for the Boys and Girls Club‘s afternoon Sk8 Camp. After lunch, full-day campers will head to the Boys and Girls Club to learn and practice skateboarding. Whether you’ve never been on a skateboard before or are a novice skater and want to improve your skills, this program is for you! Members will learn to push, ride, fall, turn, and how to control and comfortably ride a skateboard. The program will run at the Club as well as different skateparks throughout the region.
