Johnny Gandelsman: This Is America: Part II

February 7 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

$10 – $20

Join us on Wednesday, February 7th, at 7:00 pm for an extraordinary musical experience at Next Stage Arts in Putney, VT. Renowned violinist Johnny Gandelsman presents “This Is America: Part II,” a reflection on the tumultuous times of the early pandemic and the tragic events surrounding George Floyd’s murder. As part of his year-long residency at Dartmouth’s Hopkins Center for the Arts, Gandelsman performs a captivating anthology of compositions by American and US-based artists.

The program includes powerful pieces such as Clarice Assad’s “O,” a poignant reflection on the impact of the pandemic, and Rhea Fowler & Micaela Tobin’s “A City Upon a Hill?” responding to the events of January 6, 2021, with dissonant Americana-inspired themes. Angélica Negron’s “A través del manto luminoso” draws inspiration from astrophotography, exploring the longing for connection in the vastness of space.

Other featured composers include Anjna Swaminathan, Conrad Tao, and Kojiro Umezaki, each offering unique perspectives on love, stones along the Hudson River, and the profound act of breathing, respectively. The concert, presented and commissioned by the Hopkins Center for the Arts in collaboration with Next Stage Arts, promises a night of musical exploration and reflection. Tickets are $20 for the public, $12 for youth and students, and $10 for active Dartmouth students. Don’t miss this opportunity to surrender to the adventure of diverse musical expressions.
