Intro to Spindle Turning: Bench Brushes

Learn. In this class, you’ll be introduced to spindle turning on the lathe, with a focus on mastering the cuts that will help you work smoothly as you shape your projects. We’ll cover the parting tool, spindle gouge, fingernail gouges, and skew as you work towards creating your own sculptural designs. We’ll begin with a shared project: turning a bench brush handle, then applying finish and learning the technique for adding bristles. Once you’ve grasped that process, you’ll have the opportunity to craft a brush of your own design on the lathe.
