Event Description:

Join LDG tutor and artist Frances Stanfield for this practical art class suitable for all levels and ages!

We will be exploring Matisse’s celebrated stained-glass windows, theatre set design, costumes and the influence that music and dance had on Matisse’s cut out works. ‘Matisse described the maquette for Nuit de Noël as being like a musical score, while the stained glass window was like a symphony orchestra. Nuit de Noël is an astonishing creation celebrating the ‘joy of life’ by an artist in his eighties.’ – Nicholas Serota.

♬ You will also be given access to a music playlist to listen to whilst you take the class

Can’t wait to share this one with you all (It’s becoming a bit of a tradition!)

You will need:

*Some Scissors!

*Paper – 10/11 sheets would be ideal but if you don’t have enough then you can make your cut outs smaller so you can get a few out of one sheet. You can use colour paper or you can paint/colour in paper prior to the class – Matisse painted his paper with Gouache if you want to really get your Matisse game on! If you don’t have paint or colour paper – please don’t worry, we have to make do with what we have. You will get a lot out of the class using just white paper, newspaper, magazines, even greaseproof wrap or anything else that will cut easily with scissors.

*It would be good to have some dark colours, white and yellow but again, not essential.

*Optional but handy – pins and a piece of cardboard as big as your paper

*Also Optional – Bluetak OR Masking Tape/Sticky Tape

This class is suitable for ALL LEVELS – Our classes are primarily for Adults but Children will also enjoy this class! We suggest any children under 8 years old are joined by an adult for extra guidance .

Everyone is welcome to join this Pay-What-You-Can class. We suggest a donation of £20 . However, we understand that may not be possible for everybody. Please be honest and pay what you can afford so that we may continue to offer our sessions on a donation basis.

Once you have booked your place, you will receive a confirmation email and be able to access the event via your eventbrite “Online Event Page”. You can do this by signing into or creating an eventbrite account using the email that you booked with.

IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS THEN PLEASE EMAIL : hello@londondrawinggroup.com

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

“What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter – a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.” – Henri Matisse

This is an online art class where tutor Frances Stanfield will guide you through Matisse’s playful approach to art making.

Matisse is best known for both his delightfully fluid drawing style and exquisite use of colour, particularly in his simplistic cut out works. You will be engaged in mimicking Matisse’s expressive and restlessly experimental way of working to inspire you in your own creative endeavours.

In this class we will be making our cut outs from a series of images which Frances will be presenting to you and from still life.

This class is suitable for ALL LEVELS

Everyone is welcome to join in on this Pay What You Can class… we know this is a difficult and uncertain time for many and we want to do our best to support you. You just need to email us stating your situation at hello@londondrawinggroup.com and we’ll make it happen for you.

You will need:

*Some Scissors!

*Optional, but handy: pins and a piece of cardboard as big as your paper
