Our annual collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro and First Proof Press!
Build your own skateboard! Spend your mornings at HatchSpace and First Proof Press building and decorating a custom skateboard, then head to the Boys & Girls Club for lunch and an afternoon of skating in their indoor skatepark and around town.
This youth empowerment camp combines a STEM-based curriculum focused on fundamental construction skills with the recreational activity of skateboarding. Whether you’ve never stepped on a skateboard before or you’re a novice looking to improve your skills, this camp is for you!
Itinerary:
At HatchSpace and First Proof Press (Mornings): Students will start their day at HatchSpace, where they’ll learn to sort and glue up wood veneers, then use a vacuum forming technique to bend their boards. They’ll cut, shape, and sand the decks using a bandsaw and power sanders. Next, they’ll head downstairs to First Proof Press to decorate their boards with custom artwork before attaching the wheels to complete their build.
At the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro (Afternoons): Students begin and end each day at the Club, with breakfast provided at 9:00 a.m. From there, they travel to HatchSpace for the morning woodworking session. After returning to the Club for lunch, they’ll spend the afternoon learning how to push, ride, fall safely, turn, and gain confidence and control on a skateboard. Skating sessions will take place in the Club’s indoor skatepark as well as at local skateparks throughout the region.
