Boogie Nights at the Latchis
Latchis Arts kicks off The Modern Master: A Paul Thomas Anderson Retrospective with his breakout film Boogie Nights (1997), screening Saturday, February 7 at 4:00pm. Curated by local cinephiles Ian Moran and Teddy Martin, the series celebrates essential works from Anderson’s 30-year career.
Boogie Nights follows Eddie Adams (Mark Wahlberg), a teenage busboy discovered by adult-film director Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds), who transforms him into rising star Dirk Diggler. Set in the vibrant, chaotic world of the 1970s San Fernando Valley, the film traces Dirk’s meteoric rise, the chosen family he finds along the way, and the dangerous excesses that threaten to pull it all apart.
Rated R. Runtime: 2h 32m.
Additional films in the retrospective include:
- Magnolia (Feb. 15)
- The Master (Feb. 22)
- Licorice Pizza (Mar. 1)
Each film includes a post-screening conversation hosted by Moran and Martin.
