Autumn Art Workshops
Join River Gallery School teaching artist Kate Milliken for a series of hands-on art workshops held at Retreat Farm. These gatherings invite participants to slow down, connect, and explore creative expression in a warm, welcoming environment. Each class offers a different way to experience art—through observation, experimentation, and play—while enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Retreat Farm. No prior art experience is needed; just bring curiosity and a willingness to explore.
Basic supplies will be provided. The North Barn bar will be open for drinks and pizza during each session starting at 5:30pm.
Registration is $25 for adults, or $15 for children per class. Enroll in all three sessions and receive a $15 discount.
All are welcome; children under 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.
Space is limited to 12 people per class and advanced registration is strongly encouraged.
Animal Drawing at the Farm | Thursday, September 24 | 6-8pm
Join us to foster a deeper connection with our favorite farm residents, the animals! In this collaboration between Retreat Farm and River Gallery School of Art, participants will have the opportunity to practice their animal drawing skills while spending time in the Calf Barn with our live (animal) models. Led by River Gallery School’s teaching artist, Kate Milliken, this 2 hour session will provide support and instruction in life drawing with pencil and charcoal for those who need it, and the opportunity to work independently for people who prefer to be on their own. Both novice and experienced artists are welcome.
Held in the Calf Barn.
Vermont Harvest Still Life | Thursday, October 15 | 6-8pm
Spend a beautiful evening in the North Barn exploring the quiet joy of botanical sketching with watercolor. Guided by Kate Milliken, participants will draw from fall flowers, grasses, leaves, fruits, and vegetables, learning to slow down and look closely at natural forms. With an emphasis on observation and relaxation, you’ll practice simple techniques that capture the colors and textures of the natural world. All levels of experience are welcome—just bring your love of nature and a spirit of curiosity.
Held in the North Barn.
Botanical Tarot Cards | Thursday, November 5 | 6-8pm
Create your own botanically inspired tarot card using collage materials in the beautiful North Barn. Teaching Artist, Kate Milliken, will guide participants in creating layered collage pieces, using botanical materials as reference, to create a tarot card art piece of their own. Students will explore observation, form, and creative intuition in this multi-media exploration. This class welcomes artists and beginners alike, encouraging curiosity, freedom, and personal expression.
