Akira Kurosawa’s DREAMS

Dreams (1990, 120 minutes) unfolds in a series of eight mythic vignettes inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s nighttime visions and Japanese folklore. A young boy encounters a fox wedding in the forest, a soldier confronts the ghosts of the war dead, and a power-plant meltdown smothers a seaside landscape in radioactive fumes.

In a visually sumptuous journey through the master’s imagination, childlike wonder gives way to apocalyptic apparitions, with hopeful reflections on the redemptive power of creation woven throughout.
