‘Vibrant and alive’ Fiddlers alight at Potash Hill | Local News

A fiddle camp at Potash Hill in Marlboro was filled with the sounds of music as 120 fiddlers played together in the dining room. Benjamin Newcomb, a lead chef at the Brattleboro Food Co-op, and Nancy Bell, an instructor, seamstress, and fiddler, helped out in the kitchen for the event. The Boston States Fiddle Camp, run by Katie McNally, brought together fiddlers for a weekend of learning and music. Bell started hosting music “sleepovers” for teenagers at her home many years ago, and over time, the gatherings grew into larger events. She found that food brought everyone together, so she and the young participants learned to cook for themselves. The sense of community and shared love for music has continued to thrive, even after Marlboro College closed its doors in 2020. The music camp brought joy and vibrancy back to the campus, reinvigorating the Potash Hill community. Jenna Moynihan, an instructor at the camp, ran an introduction course to fiddle playing, helping others to develop their musical skills. The passion for music and sense of togetherness were evident throughout the weekend, making it a memorable and uplifting gathering for all involved.
