Stuck in Vermont: Volunteer Leonard Prive Picks Up Roadside Trash Between Underhill and Westfield | Stuck in Vermont | Seven Days

Leonard Prive, a retired custodian from Johnson, has taken it upon himself to clean up litter along Routes 15, 100C, and 100 in Vermont. He started this initiative during the early days of the pandemic, spending 6 to 8 hours a day picking up trash until early May. Last year, he filled 206 trash bags, and this year, he filled between 106 to 108. Prive works in treacherous areas, sometimes dragging up larger items like microwaves and fridges, and leaves the filled bags for the Vermont Agency of Transportation to collect. Senior multimedia producer Eva Sollberger recently met up with him to document his efforts, where she witnessed him picking up pieces of plastic lawn chairs, tires, metal, and plastic bottles. Prive hopes that his work will inspire others to keep the roadways clean. Over the years, there have been several posts on Facebook about him and his work, which have been shared hundreds of times. This episode of Stuck in Vermont was supported by New England Federal Credit Union.
