Stuck in Vermont: Nick Morse Has Been Planting Peonies in Chittenden County for 40 Years

Nick Morse is a retired Burlington resident with a passion for peonies. For the past 40 years, he has tended to garden beds of peonies at six different locations in Chittenden County. Morse volunteers his time and money to create these vibrant, fragrant displays at Shelburne Farms, Wheeler Homestead, McClure Miller Respite House, University of Vermont Medical Center’s Fanny Allen campus, Hope Lodge, and First Congregational Church. Morse’s dedication to peonies has made him a colorful character in the community. Seven Days senior multimedia producer Eva Sollberger met up with him to see his blooms at First Congregational Church’s Memorial Garden Cemetery and Hope Lodge in Burlington. The filming took place on a sunny weekend, capturing the beauty of the peonies in full bloom.

This episode of Stuck in Vermont was supported by New England Federal Credit Union. Morse’s love for peonies and his commitment to creating stunning displays bring joy to those who visit the gardens he tends. His passion for peonies extends beyond his own personal enjoyment, as he shares the beauty of these flowers with the community. Morse’s dedication to tending to these gardens serves as a reminder of the transformative power of nature and the joy that can be found in caring for something beautiful.
