Stuck in Vermont: Metal Sculptor Kat Clear Creates Public Art Flowers in Downtown Vergennes With Help From Welding Students at Northlands Job Corps | Stuck in Vermont | Seven Days

Metal sculptor Kat Clear has been creating public art in Burlington for almost two decades, with well-known works like “Fabric of Life” at the University of Vermont Medical Center and giant combination lock bike racks. After taking a break to focus on family and mushroom farming, Clear is back with a new piece in Vergennes called “Flower Stop.” She collaborated with welding students from Northlands Job Corps to create the sculpture, which features massive stalks of milkweed and rudbeckia. The project was made possible through a grant from the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment of the Arts. Seven Days senior multimedia producer Eva Sollberger, who has known Clear for years, documented the creation and installation of “Flower Stop.” The dedication of the artwork to the citizens of Vergennes will take place at the Tri-Valley Transit bus stop on June 27. The transformation of the bus stop into the “Flower Stop” will bring nature and color to the neighborhood. This episode of Stuck in Vermont was supported by New England Federal Credit Union.
