The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame revealed its 2025 nominees, which include the renowned Vermont jam band Phish, alongside first-time nominees such as Chubby Checker, Outkast, Billy Idol, Bad Company, Joe Cocker, ManΓ‘, and the Black Crowes. Phish, originally formed in 1983 in Burlington with members Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon, Trey Anastasio, and Jeff Holdsworth, has maintained a consistent lineup since 1986 with the addition of Page McConnell on keyboards. The band is celebrated for its live performances and festivals and has released 16 studio albums, with βJuntaβ (1989) being their debut and βEvolveβ (2022) their most recent project. Their devoted fan base, often likened to the Grateful Dead’s, underscores their significant cultural impact.
To be eligible for the Rock Hall nomination, artists must have released their first recording at least 25 years prior. Other nominees include previous contenders Mariah Carey, Oasis, the White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper, Joy Division/New Order, and Soundgarden. John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, praised this yearβs nominees for their unique musical styles and their influence on generations of music fans.
The Rock Hall, established in 1983 by Atlantic Records cofounder Ahmet Ertegun, relies on a 500-member committee of music historians and journalists to select nominees. The official list of inductees will be announced in April, leading to an induction ceremony scheduled for fall in Los Angeles. Fans are encouraged to participate in the selection process by voting for their favorite nominees at vote.rockhall.com.
