On the Beat: Summer Cocktails and New Releases

This weekend, Hinesburg will host the Rabbit Hole Craft Cocktail Live Music Summer Series at Birch & Berry inn, featuring two nights of music with cocktails and mocktails. On Friday, July 18, Patrick McAndrew will perform ’90s alternative hits, including songs by Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The following night, the showcase will feature Julianna Luna, who will perform soul and jazz classics from artists like Lauryn Hill and Nina Simone. Series founder Jonathan Brathwaite aims to unite the community for a relaxed evening of music, games, and socializing.

In local music news, the Vermont music scene is buzzing with fresh releases. Indie-folk duo Deep River Saints is poised to release their new album, “A Good Place to Die,” this October, with their first single “Laid Bare” already available for streaming. Burlington garage-punk band Dog Water is celebrating their new EP, “Black Crayon,” by releasing a playful music video for its title track and hosting a release party at Radio Bean with fellow punks.

Additionally, guitarist Xander Naylor has released a new single, “Future Curious,” featuring a blend of Indo-jazz and collaboration with tabla master Samir Chatterjee. This track is part of his upcoming album “Children of Sound,” funded by a Vermont Arts Council grant.

Lastly, Montpelier artist James M. Gallagher has debuted a quirky single, “Open Wide,” known for its humorous approach and sampling a famous line from “When Harry Met Sally.” Each of these artists adds to Vermont’s vibrant summer music landscape.
