On the Beat: Music on the Mountain is Back

As music festival season approaches, the Music on the Mountain Festival is set to take place for its second year on May 16 and 17 at Jackson Gore Village, Ludlow, Vermont. This family-friendly event is substance-free, benefiting the Divided Sky recovery center, co-founded by Trey Anastasio from Phish, and the Phoenix nonprofit for fostering sober communities. The festival will kick off with a campfire jam featuring singer-songwriters Anders Osborne, Daniel Donato, and Steve Poltz, followed by the Divided Sky Fun(d) Run 5K event and a concert from the "Divided Sky All-Stars," including musicians like Karina Rykman. More details are available at musiconthemtn.com.

Additionally, on March 28, acclaimed banjo player Noam Pikelny, a member of the Punch Brothers and a nine-time Grammy nominee, will perform at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland. Opening for him will be singer-songwriter Caitlin Canty, marking a special return for the Proctor native. Tickets can be purchased from paramountvt.org.

In new music news, the Burlington band Brunch has released two singles: "Dr. Benway," which draws inspiration from a character in William S. Burroughs’ Naked Lunch, and "Loose Ends," a heavier track. Both were recorded live at Robot Dog Studio in Burlington. Fans can listen to these songs on brunchtheband.bandcamp.com.
