On the Beat: A Benefit Concert at the Chandler

Dan “Rudi” Ruddell and his partner, Lisa Kippen, suffered a devastating loss when their home in Tunbridge was destroyed by fire on November 28, 2023. Ruddell, a musician known for his involvement in local bluegrass bands, lost his beloved 1930s Gibson L-00 guitar, while Kippen, an artist, lost all her work and materials. In response, the local community has organized a benefit concert titled “Mountain Songs: A Benefit Concert for Rudi and Lisa” at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph on January 31, 2024. With a lineup of local musicians, including Bow Thayer and Turnip Truck, the concert will operate on a donation basis, with all proceeds directed toward helping the couple rebuild their lives.

In other local news, Burlington indie artist Lily Seabird is set to release her new album, β€œTrash Mountain,” on April 4 through Lame-O Records. She has already shared the album’s lead single, “Trash Mountain (1pm),” along with a music video showcasing her singing and dancing in various Burlington locations.

Additionally, a group of comedians in Burlington is reviving the sitcom format with “Pet Store: A Live Sitcom,” premiering January 30 at Vermont Comedy Club. The show is centered around the employees of a fictional pet store competing against a national chain. This monthly live event plays on the interactive aspect of sitcoms, inviting audience participation.

Lastly, local musician Tom Pearo serenaded brunch-goers at Hotel Vermont throughout January, offering a unique musical experience that blended various genres, enhancing the ambiance of the venue.
