Lutalo, a 25-year-old singer-songwriter based in Vermont, recently offered insights into their debut album, The Academy, during a Zoom interview while riding through Arizona’s Texas Canyon. Identifying with they/them pronouns, Lutalo expressed that their music seeks to encapsulate the essence of living as a 21st-century individual in America. Moved from Minnesota in 2021, they established a home studio in Addison County and quickly began releasing singles and EPs leading up to this full-length record, which Lutalo describes as "the first chapter in a longer story."

The Academy has received critical acclaim, with mentions in major publications such as The Guardian and Rolling Stone UK, contributing to Lutalo’s increasingly busy touring schedule that has included performances at major festivals. Ironically, despite their rise in popularity, Lutalo’s connection to the Vermont music scene has remained limited, with their only local performance prior to now in 2022.

On February 14, 2024, Lutalo will make their Burlington debut at Radio Bean, signaling a newfound eagerness to engage with the local scene. They have adopted a nonconformist approach towards media attention, noting that they prefer to keep their thoughts "clean" to avoid outside influences.

Their new single, "I Figured," exemplifies a shift towards intimate themes, exploring personal relationships. As Lutalo looks to the future, they anticipate a deeper exploration of themes stemming from their life experiences, marking a narrative connection in their work. Enthusiastically, they are ready to interact with the local community and share their unique artistic journey.
