Nectar’s in Burlington Hosted What May Be Its Last Shows

In late summer 2001, Chris, a college student, arrived in Burlington, Vermont, with little more than a mattress and a desire to explore the local music scene. After receiving recommendations that did not appeal, he stumbled upon the iconic Nectar’s, where the vibrant atmosphere and diverse crowd captivated him. It became a cherished venue during his early years, marking the beginning of a deep connection to the local music community.

Over the years, Chris noticed a shift in Nectar’s focus from local acts to touring jam bands, which diminished his visits. However, with news of Nectar’s potential closure after the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival, he felt compelled to pay his respects. The final shows featured beloved local musicians, fostering a celebratory ambiance rather than a somber farewell.

At the last event, despite worries about the club’s future, attendees and staff radiated optimism. General manager Tyler Nettleton reassured fans about plans for Nectar’s revival. This sentiment resonated with Chris as he reflected on the venue’s role in his life and the broader music scene.

As he left that night, he pondered Nectar’s significance, likening it to an oasis of music and community in his life. While the club’s fate remains uncertain, its impact on Chris and generations of Burlingtonians is undeniable, embodying a spirit of connection that transcends mere entertainment. The hope for Nectar’s return as a hub for new musical experiences endures, illustrating the resilience and passion of its patrons and staff.
