Eye on the Scene: Gregory Douglass at NEK PrideFest

The NEK PrideFest in Newport on June 22 featured a vibrant celebration culminating in lively performances. The weekend began quietly on Friday in the Montgomery Center/Jay Peak area, which lived up to its reputation as a sleepy locale after dark. However, Saturday brought a surge of excitement with the Summer Solstice Sessions at Jay Peak, showcasing a newly constructed terrain park and a competitive battle of the bands. Participating acts included Night Protocol, Shady Trees, Turbo Cats, Fred Willie Hill, and Kyle Chadburn & the Earthbound Spirits, with the latter winning the event and securing a spot at next year’s Jeezum Crow Festival.

Sunday’s programming included lively performances following the Pride parade, which drew a crowd eager to celebrate diversity and inclusion. A particular highlight was the return of Gregory Douglass, a pop songwriter originally from Vermont, who performed alongside Lisa Piccirillo and Monique Citro. The festival successfully brought together community members for a joyful and uplifting occasion, emphasizing that while the Northeast Kingdom may wind down after sunset, it certainly offers vibrant experiences during daylight hours. The weekend’s events combined music and community spirit, leaving a lasting impression as attendees celebrated Pride in a fun-filled environment.
