New to skateboarding? Create a custom board to start cruising around or learning tricks. Seasoned shredder? Build a one-of-a-kind deck with the shape, size, wheelbase, and concavity of your dreams.
This is hands-on learning at its best, making and hanging out with friends (old and new) in the woodshop.
Make…
- Day 1: Students will design their boards on paper and then carve a custom mold out of foam. Next, you’ll sort and glue up seven layers of maple veneer and load the veneer/foam “stacks” into a vacuum bag system to be pressed overnight.
- Day 2: Students will cut the shape of their boards on a bandsaw, use a router to round the edges, and sand everything smooth with belt sanders and palm sanders before finishing by drilling holes where trucks and wheels can be attached.
Each student will leave with one maple skateboard deck that can be painted and/or finished independently.
If this is your first board, the instructor can advise which wheels and trucks; and other skateboard components can be bought to build the best complete skateboard for you.
