Make a Shaker-Style Berry Box
In this class, you’ll build a simple, well-made Shaker-style berry box while learning practical woodworking techniques. Though the design is straightforward, it requires accuracy and care, making it a great project for building skills. The finished box is useful for gathering fruit, organizing small items, or everyday use around the house.
Learn. In this one-day workshop, students will learn how to create strong, clean finger joints using a box-joint jig and stationary woodworking machines. You’ll be introduced to layout and measuring, safe machine operation, and careful assembly techniques. The class will also demonstrate steam or heat bending methods used to form the curved wooden handle, along with drilling and fitting the pivot points that allow the handle to move smoothly.
Make. Students will leave with a completed Shaker-style berry box featuring precise finger-jointed corners and a gracefully curved, pivoting handle. The finished box reflects traditional Shaker design principles – simple, durable, and made to be used for years to come.
