Intro to Spindle Turning: Bench Brushes
This class will focus on spindle turning, using bench brushes as the medium to explore sculptural forms and creative design.

Learn. In this class, you’ll be introduced to spindle turning on the lathe, with a focus on mastering the cuts that will help you work smoothly as you shape your projects. We’ll cover the parting tool, spindle gouge, fingernail gouges, and skew as you work towards creating your own sculptural designs. We’ll begin with a shared project: turning a bench brush handle, then applying finish and learning the technique for adding bristles. Once you’ve grasped that process, you’ll have the opportunity to craft a brush of your own design on the lathe. |

Make. By the end of the course, each student will leave with a finished turned bench or clothes brush, along with a personalized brush of their own design. You’ll also have the skills to continue designing and making more brushes, whether on and off the lathe!
Saturday, May 16 | 10am – 5pm | Class will break for a 1/2 hour lunch.
Cost: $195 non-members: $165.75 members (plus an additional $20 materials fee)
