Frank Capra’s LOST HORIZON (1937)

LOST HORIZON (1937, 133 mins). This Holiday Season, we offer a radical change of pace for director Frank Capra (It’s A Wonderful Life)– adapted by Robert Riskin from James Hilton’s philosophical best-seller. Ronald Colman finds long-sought-for harmony – and love – in the Himalayan mountains. Experience an edge-of-your-seat adventure and romance as you explore what it means to be at peace with oneself. Visually stunning and brilliant on all levels, from the supporting cast, including Jane Wyatt and Sam Jaffe, to the gorgeous set design of Shangri-La. This new 4K restoration, including a scene recovered after over 75 years, is the most complete version since its original release.

The National Film Registry honored the film as “an emotional respite to an American public seeking escape from the Depression and yearning for their own personal utopias.” Lost Horizon received seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and won Film Editing (Stephen Goosson) and Art Direction (Gene Havlick, Gene Milford).
