Chili Supper to Benefit Brattleboro Area Interfaith Youth Group
West Brattleboro, VT—The Brattleboro Area Interfaith Youth Group is holding a Chili Supper, on Saturday, January 31 from 5-7:30 pm at the First Congregational Church of West Brattleboro, in their “Club West” Fellowship Hall.
This community event will raise money for the youth group’s service and learning trip in April to Charleston, South Carolina, one of the oldest cities in the nation, where the U.S. civil war started. There, 16 young people and 5 adults from the Greater Brattleboro area representing Christian, Muslim and Jewish faith communities will spend a week assisting local nonprofits with projects addressing food insecurity, sea mammal rescue, poverty and homelessness.
The menu at the Chili Supper consists of both beef and vegetarian chili, cornbread, dessert and beverage. The suggested donation is $15 for adults, less for children 12 and under.
The Interfaith Youth Group builds a multicultural community through friendships, fun and service. It is composed of young people, over a half of whom are either recently resettled refugees from Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo or exchange students, who are interested in sharing their cultures, providing peer support and learning about each other while doing community service each month.
No reservations are required for the supper, which will feature some live background music. The address of First Congregational Church of West Brattleboro is 880 Western Ave., West Brattleboro, VT and the meal will be served downstairs. The church is situated in front of Academy School, with ample parking available.
