BIPOC Maker Workshop: Edge-Grain Cutting Boards

Co-hosted by The Root Social Justice Center and HatchSpace, our BIPOC Maker Workshops are an opportunity for anyone who self-identifies as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color to come find and create community around woodworking. All workshops are free, and designed for beginners – no woodworking experience is necessary!

>> 2 Sessions: Mondays, April 6 and April 13, from 5:30 to 8:00pm

Featured Activity: Edge Grain Cutting Boards
This 2-part workshop is for anyone wanting to get into woodworking but didn’t know where to start. On the first night, you’ll learn foundational milling techniques – the skills used in almost every woodworking project – while making your own edge-grain cutting board from multiple hardwoods. You’ll get hands-on experience with essential machines like the miter saw, jointer, planer, and table saw, and learn how to do a glue-up to assemble your board. The second night is devoted to shaping, sanding and finishing your board. By the end, you’ll have not only a beautiful, functional cutting board but also the confidence to take on more woodworking projects.

Cost: Free and open to the BIPOC community. Registration is required to reserve your seat, but drop-ins may be accepted if space is available.
