Art Talk: Jude Griebel and Sarah Freeman

Artist Jude Griebel and BMAC Director of Exhibitions Sarah Freeman discuss Elegy for the Consumed, on view March 21 – July 5, 2026.

Artist Jude Griebel and BMAC Director of Exhibitions Sarah Freeman discuss Elegy for the Consumed, on view March 21 – July 5, 2026, in the museum’s Wolf Kahn & Emily Mason Gallery. Griebel’s sculptures explore the intersections of consumerism, ecology, and myth, translating environmental challenges into carefully crafted, allegorical forms. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk through the exhibition before the discussion.

Griebel is a Canadian artist working between New York City and Calgary, Alberta. Inspired by his family’s farming background and concerns about global food systems, climate change, and our relationships with other species, Griebel’s work often features materials such as stained glass and porcelain to connect craft traditions with the natural world. Griebel’s work has been supported by residencies at Pioneer Works, the International Studio and Curatorial Program, and Yaddo, and funded by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Canada Council for the Arts, Calgary Arts Development, and the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation.
