Bent Nails Bistro Moves; WRUV Turns 70

Big changes are brewing in Vermont’s music scene! Bent Nails Bistro is packing up and shifting to Middlesex this November, taking over the old Chico’s Tacos & Bar location. Co-owner Aaron Ingham shared that they’ll rebrand as Bent Nails Roadhouse, where the focus will be on great food and art, plus live entertainment to keep the vibes lively.

Since opening in 2021, the Montpelier venue has been a local hotspot, hosting music three to four nights a week. But with Montpelier’s nightlife dwindling—Ingham described it as a “ghost town”—the move signals a new chapter for the venue. The old spot at 4 Langdon Street has a rich music history, previously home to Sweet Melissa’s and Langdon Street Café, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes next for that space.

In other exciting news, Vermont Public has kicked off “The Folk Show With Kate McNally” airing Sundays at 7 p.m. Following the recent passing of beloved DJ Robert Resnik, known for his work on “All the Traditions,” this show shines a light on folk classics while introducing fresh talent to the mix. A tribute concert is in the works for late October in honor of Resnik, showcasing a lineup of wonderful musicians.

And let’s not forget, WRUV 90.1 FM just celebrated a remarkable 70 years! Originating as a closed-circuit station in 1955, its evolution into one of Vermont’s go-to sources for independent and underground music highlights its vital role in the community. With support from UVM and local listeners, WRUV remains a beacon of fresh sounds in an increasingly corporate music landscape. So tune in, enjoy, and show your support for this local treasure!
