Scoring Silent Films at Champlain College

Get ready for a captivating evening of sound and vision at Champlain College this Thursday, October 9, as renowned cellist Lori Goldston scores a selection of silent films live! Curated by Caryn Cline, the event features ten experimental shorts originally shot on 16mm, giving modern audiences a taste of the magic of silent cinema enhanced by Goldston’s stunning performances.

Many remember Goldston from her ’90s tours with Nirvana and her unforgettable appearance on the band’s MTV Unplugged in New York album. Her diverse musical collaborations include artists like Cat Power and Earth, showcasing her unique ability to bring genres together. This free event promises to be a delightful blend of art and music that shouldn’t be missed!

In a nod to Vermont’s rich musical heritage, the Vermont Historical Society has launched an exhibit highlighting the state’s early songwriting legacy. “Vermont’s Tunebook Tradition: Composers, Compilers & Singers of Psalmody (1790-2025)” showcases seven tunebooks that shed light on the state’s musical roots, with stories of musicians spanning over two centuries. This intriguing exhibit can be explored at the Vermont History Museum in Montpelier until December.

Meanwhile, keep an ear out for singer-songwriter Emma Cook, who is gearing up for her album release in February 2026. Her first single, “Thirteen Moons,” will drop on October 14, coinciding with her performance at Radio Bean in Burlington. Fellow artist David Karl Roberts is also making waves with three new tracks available for streaming. With so much happening, it’s an exciting time for the Vermont music scene!
