Last Friday night, the vibe outside the Monkey House was electric, with a sold-out crowd soaking up the soulful sounds spilling from within. Burlington’s Acqua Mossa took to the stage, celebrating the release of their debut LP with the opening track “THIS IS REAL.” With keyboardist Derek Rice and drummer Tim Heaghney laying down infectious grooves, lead vocalist Stephanie Wilson delivered haunting melodies that touched on urgent themes like climate change and personal struggle.
Formed in 2020, the band’s journey has been anything but straightforward, culminating in this emotionally charged album shaped by Wilson’s battle with breast cancer and reflections on social issues. Each track blends elements of electronic, soul, and indie rock into a cohesive sound that feels both modern and deeply sincere. Wilson openly shares that writing this album has been a personal evolution; lyrics have transformed alongside her own growth and experiences.
With production help from local DJ SnakeFoot, the trio faced numerous challenges in perfecting their sound, including a complicated mastering process that tested their patience. Yet, moments of excitement—like holding their vinyl for the first time—reminded them of the joy behind their hard work.
Although they won’t hit the road extensively this year, with projects and travels ahead, the band is brimming with creativity. Plans for a follow-up EP and a sophomore album are already in motion. During their electrifying performance, it was clear: Acqua Mossa has not only created a stunning debut but is ready to keep the momentum going, delighting fans along the way.
