Vermont’s music scene is buzzing with exciting new releases and events! Singer-songwriter Ali McGuirk has just dropped her sultry R&B single, “Graveyard,” the last preview from her album, Watertop, which came out on September 12. McGuirk’s lyrics speak to her social activism, beautifully encapsulated in the opening track “Love Goes First,” where she expresses that “love is the thing that keeps us afloat.” Catch her live at the Higher Ground Showcase Lounge in South Burlington on October 4.
Meanwhile, experimental indie-rock band The Dead Shakers are about to make waves with their politically charged album, Now That’s What I Call Missiles and Bombz 4 Kidz!, set for release on September 19. Lead singer Kevin Bloom confronts pressing issues like the Gaza conflict, with tracks like “Raytheon’s Quarterly Profit Review” drawing attention to defense contractors. They’ll celebrate the release with a live show at Burlington’s Radio Bean, where they’ll share the stage with Infinite Cousins.
Not to be overlooked, Grace Palmer is making her mark, fresh off a performance at Grace Potter’s Grand Point North festival. Her jazzy new single, “Wanna Go Out?” is another teaser from her upcoming debut album, produced by Stowe guitarist George Walker Petit. Palmer will be performing this Friday, September 26, at Foam Brewers in Burlington.
And for those looking for something special, don’t miss the POP Montréal festival, kicking off September 24. While Vermont artists may be fewer this year, the lineup features a diverse mix of over 200 performers across multiple genres. It’s the perfect weekend to soak up the local scene and discover new favorites!
