Vermont singer-songwriter Noah Kahan has made significant strides in mental health advocacy through his foundation, the Busyhead Project, which has raised over $4 million since its launch in May 2023. Recently, the nonprofit announced a $1 million donation to over 100 community organizations across North America, Europe, and the UK as part of Giving Tuesday, emphasizing Kahan’s commitment to mental health care. Beneficiaries include Didi Hirsch and Oasis Center, which focus on mental health services.
Kahan, whose music gained widespread recognition following his 2022 album “Stick Season,” has been open about his personal battles with mental health. His advocacy efforts gained momentum during his “We’ll All Be Here Forever” world tour, where he raised $3 million through fan contributions. Each concert featured “Busyhead Project Action Villages,” allowing fans to engage with local mental health organizations and share their experiences through community walls, which collected over 11,000 notes by the tour’s conclusion.
In addition to his national efforts, Kahan supports local initiatives, such as a notable visit to the University of Vermont Children’s Hospital last December, where he performed and donated toys worth $2,000 with help from Dunkin’. He also held a sold-out concert in September at the Champlain Valley Exposition to benefit local mental health services, during which Vermont Governor Phil Scott declared September 19 as “Noah Kahan’s Busyhead Project Day.” Kahan expressed his desire to leverage his platform to assist organizations that provided him with support, stating the importance of turning his mental health journey into concrete action for others.
