Club d’Elf Live at Next Stage Arts: Moroccan-Dosed Psychedelic Jazz – November 23

PUTNEY, VT – Get ready to embark on a sonic journey when Club d’Elf, Boston’s Moroccan-dosed psychedelic dub jazz collective, takes the stage at Next Stage Arts on Saturday, November 23, at 7:30 PM. With its mesmerizing blend of Moroccan traditional music and electronic, dubbed-out funk, Club d’Elf promises a night of hypnotic grooves and adventurous soundscapes.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, or $10 for a livestream. Advance tickets are available at nextstagearts.org.

About Club d’Elf

For over 25 years, Club d’Elf has transported audiences to otherworldly musical realms with its kaleidoscopic fusion of styles. Anchored by bassist/composer Mike Rivard and drummer Dean Johnston, the ensemble features a rotating lineup of virtuoso musicians from the jazz, DJ, rock, and world music scenes of Boston, NYC, and beyond.

Drawing influences from jazz, hip-hop, electronica, avant-garde, prog-rock, dub, and Moroccan trance, Club d’Elf’s music defies categorization. A key element of their sound comes from Brahim Fribgane, a Casablanca-born musician whose mesmerizing oud and Moroccan sintir stylings weave trance music into the band’s DNA.

“Masters of their craft, Club d’Elf transports listeners to exotic lands, while infusing their sound with electronics, virtuosity, and surprises,” says Keith Marks, Executive Director of Next Stage Arts. “Their music is for the curious and adventurous listener, taking people on an unforgettable journey.”

A New Chapter: You Never Know

In April 2022, Club d’Elf released You Never Know, their latest album, which reached #2 on the Relix chart. The record combines covers of Moroccan trance music, Miles Davis, Joe Zawinul, and Frank Zappa with original compositions inspired by Rivard’s personal journey, including a near-death experience in the Peruvian Amazon.

“You Never Know is a wide-ranging romp, full of serenity, chaos, longing, improvisation, and peerless musicianship,” writes Banning Eyre of Afropop Worldwide.
