“Water: Shape and Time” – A Stunning Exhibition of Palladiotypes by Nick Ellison

PUTNEY, VT – Art enthusiasts and nature lovers alike won’t want to miss “Water: Shape and Time,” an extraordinary exhibition of palladiotypes by photographer Nick Ellison, opening at the NXT Gallery on November 16. The exhibition will run through February 9, 2025, with a special opening reception on Sunday, November 17, from 3 to 5 PM at 15 Kimball Hill, Putney, VT.

A Meditation on Water and Time

Nick Ellison’s work highlights the intricate relationship between water, time, and change. Each image captures the subtle, transformative forces of water, inviting viewers to pause and consider the often-overlooked beauty of the natural world. Using the palladium printing process—a historic method dating back to the 19th century—Ellison creates hand-made prints that are as timeless as their subject matter.

By focusing on large-format film negatives rather than digital methods, Ellison deepens his connection to his craft and his subjects, producing images that reflect the authenticity and patience required by the palladium process. Each print is a labor of love, blending artistic vision with chemical precision.

About the Artist

Nick Ellison is not only an accomplished photographer but also a mechanical engineer based in Putney, Vermont. His passion for photography began in childhood and grew into an exploration of film and historical printing techniques, providing him a break from the fast-paced digital world while embracing the enduring beauty of nature.
