Camille Thurman with the Darrell Green Quartet
Saturday, January 20, 2024
7:30 PM
Vermont Jazz Center & live-stream
Camille Thurman, saxophonist & vocalist, called a “rising star” by Downbeat Magazine & a “first class saxophonist that blows the proverbial roof off the place” by All About Jazz, in concert with her touring ensemble, the Darrell Green Quartet.
Thurman honors the past & looks towards the future. Her sound on tenor evokes Dexter Gordon & her mentor George Coleman. Her vocals are suggestive of Ella Fitzgerald & Betty Carter, yet Thurman’s concepts are fresh and modern.
She toured four continents as saxophonist with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. She’s the first woman in 30 years to tour & perform as a full-time member of the ensemble.
Thurman was also JALC’s featured artist during its 2021 presentation of John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme,” & lauded by Christian McBride.
