About the Wines: Few territories in the world can claim such a remarkable history for grape growing and wine making than what is today the Campania region of Italy. Vine tending can be dated to 12th C BC, and literally hundreds of grape varieties existed both indigenous and of Greek origin. These grapes grown in the hot summers inland but within reach of Mt. Vesuvius and the city of Naples, thrived under the Romans with its structured whites of grapes of Greco and Fiano and rich red Aglianico (then Hellenicum) and the legendary wine called Falernum, at its peak in the 1st C AD. Production was in Amphora with many flavorings and other ingredients added both for aesthetics and stabilization. Aside from a few established producers keeping the flame, the wines during the 20th century were slow to catch the wave of the global revolution towards quality and commerce of the ’70s and beyond but recent decades has seen both established wineries and a tremendous rise of new families and visionaries realizing Campania’s viticultural bounty and history.
