Community French Dances

Come dance! Eloise & Co. is hosting a monthly series of French community bal folk dances at the beautiful Broad Brook Community Center. You are very welcome even if you’ve never danced before! You can feel free to hang out and listen and watch, or dive right into the fun. We’ll teach you everything you need to know! The dances are in lines, circles, spirals, and couples, and anyone can ask anyone else to dance. It’s a welcoming space for the LGBTQIA+ community, as the dances happen with no reference to gender. All ages are welcome! Some dances are beautiful and meditative, while others are raucous and energetic. The community has a reputation for being exceptionally friendly and welcoming.

There’s live music every month by Eloise & Co.: Becky Tracy on fiddle and Rachel Bell on accordion. There are frequent musical guests, including a vibrant community bal folk orchestra that joins for a tune or two almost every time. Eloise & Co. hosts a few extra-special events each year with visits to Scott Farm and the Guilford Park Pavilion, adding snacks (crepes!) and jam sessions to the dancing.

Eloise & Co. just released a new track on Bandcamp, a set of bourrees (traditional French dances) composed by Rachel Bell and arranged by Eloise & co. The bourrees are inspired by this dance community, named for Broad Brook Community Center. Give it a listen to get an idea what the music is like, and come join us at one of our upcoming dances!

His band features Lawrence Fields (piano), Kris Funn (bass), and Brian Richburg Jr. (drums), each a powerhouse in their own right. Rooted in the...
