Stuck in Vermont: Neglected Animals Find a Home With Era MacDonald at Merrymac Farm Sanctuary in Charlotte | Stuck in Vermont | Seven Days

Merrymac Farm Sanctuary in Charlotte is a safe haven for over 100 animals who have been rescued from neglect and abuse. Founded by Era MacDonald in 2016 and formalized as a nonprofit, the sanctuary provides a loving forever home for horses, sheep, goats, pigs, and turkeys, each of which has a name and can be sponsored by donors. The sanctuary also focuses on education and regularly hosts Open Barn Days to introduce the public to the rescued animals. In a recent episode of “Stuck in Vermont,” senior multimedia producer Eva Sollberger visited the sanctuary on Thanksgiving morning and witnessed the volunteer crew caring for the animals. The turkeys and pigs were treated to a special holiday meal that included cranberries and sweet potatoes. The sanctuary will be holding Winter Wonderland Open Barn Days on December 8th and 9th, with tickets available for purchase in advance. The sanctuary relies on volunteers and donations from supporters to continue its important work.
