With cancer and relocation, community rallies for printmaker | Local News

Dan Chiaccio, the owner of First Proof Press, was diagnosed with Stage Four Hodgkin’s lymphoma in July, but is still working and receiving treatment at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Despite the challenges, he expects to be cancer-free in about six months. He is also in the process of moving his printmaking studio to a new location on High Street and has set up a fundraiser to help with the costs, which has raised over $34,000. The new location will offer more visibility and space for retail, as well as the potential for collaboration with other tenants in the building. Although he has faced challenges, including operating during a pandemic, Chiaccio is optimistic about the future and plans to reopen in December. He has collaborated with various local organizations and businesses and has taught at Community College of Vermont. Despite the obstacles, Chiaccio’s passion and energy for the First Proof Press project and his determination to see it through are described as inspiring by others in the community.
