Steely Dead brings ‘music and debauchery’ to Mad Hatter’s Ball | Entertainment

Colorado-based band Steely Dead, a fusion of Steely Dan and the Grateful Dead, has arrived in Queens for a performance at the Mad Hatter’s Ball at Memorial Hall in Wilmington. The band is known for blending Steely Dan’s “The Fez” with the Dead’s “Sugaree” and call it “Fezaree.” The concert will include two full sets, a costume contest, and raffles to benefit Memorial Hall. Tickets are being sold for $25 at events.com, and the concert will mark the end of the season for the Friends of Memorial Hall.

The band has a nine-day tour of the Northeast, which includes performances in New York City, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Boston, Long Island, and Vermont. They also performed at the Dead of Summer Music Festival in Manchester this summer. Steely Dead is known for its unique song pairings, such as “Deal” by the Dead and “Reelin’ in the Years” by Steely Dan, which they call “Dealin’ in the Years.” The band aims to blend the songs of the two bands to keep things interesting on the road.

While on tour, the band members play note-for-note renditions of Steely Dan solos and ensure they have matching keyboard tones, intro licks, guitar solos, and vocal harmonies. They also occasionally take songs on a new journey before returning to the original song. Despite attracting fans of both Steely Dan and the Grateful Dead, the band aims to meet the expectations of Steely Dan fans while catering to those who enjoy the Grateful Dead. The concert will mark the end of the season for the Friends of Memorial Hall, and the band is looking forward to a great night of music and fun.
