Kate Spencer, an author and artist, was inspired to write and illustrate a children’s book called “The Cat who Walked the Camino” after befriending a stray cat while walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. This ancient 500-mile trail, with panoramic vistas and historic sites, is a popular destination for Christian pilgrims and hikers from all over the world. The fictional story follows a cat named Don Pedro Pepito and a pilgrim named Lucia as they encounter real sites and legends along the trail. The book incorporates Spanish words and phrases and features beautiful illustrations by Spencer. The author’s background in art and her love for adventure shine through the pages of the book. Spencer is currently working on a new book about women in medicine and is the former owner of Maple Leaf Music in Brattleboro, where her book can be purchased. “The Cat who Walked the Camino” is a charming and educational book for children and adults who love animals and adventure, making it a perfect holiday gift.
