Recent local hip-hop series have been popping up, providing much-needed hot spots for the genre in Vermont and New York. Moogs Place in Morrisville is set to host a hip-hop night featuring artists such as Big Homie Wes, Boxguts, Roc DaDon, and Mavstar. Meanwhile, after 61 years, Rick Norcross of Rick & the All-Star Ramblers Western Swing Band is retiring and releasing his final record. Singer-songwriter Jon Gailmor, a fixture in Vermont music since 1977, is leaving the state to move to New Orleans, taking a piece of local music history with him. Both musicians will have performances before their departures. In addition, the BirdSong Music and Arts Festival recently took place at Radio Bean in Burlington, featuring over 20 live acts and creating a familiar atmosphere despite changing venues. The festival included field recordings of birdsong and late-night sets from local artists. These recent events showcase the vibrant and diverse music scene in Vermont, with a mix of new talent and beloved veterans creating memorable performances for audiences to enjoy.
