On the Beat: Mad Pride March and the Peace.Fest

Vermont is set to host two unique music festivals this weekend. The first event is the Mad Pride March, organized by psychiatric survivors and those with mental illness to combat discrimination and promote community communication. Starting in Toronto in 1993, the movement has since spread globally. In Vermont, it will take place in downtown Burlington on July 13, with a meetup at noon and a march down Church Street to Battery Park. Speakers, organizations, and singer-songwriter Sunny War will be featured. The march aims to create a supportive space for sharing personal stories and building community cohesion.

Another festival happening on the same day is the Peace.Fest in Lincoln. Hosted by the Sunray Meditation Society, the substance-free event offers workshops, community art projects, and a lineup of Vermont musicians, including Mal Maïz, Omega Jade, Andriana & the Bananas, and Danny & the Parts. Food trucks and mini golf will also be available. For those interested, tickets and more information can be found on sunray.org/peacefest. Both events promise a day filled with music, community, and celebration.
