The Stone Church in Brattleboro is reviving its GRRRLS 2 the Front series to increase participation among women, trans, and nonbinary individuals in the music industry, particularly in sound design, lighting, and booking. The series includes tech production classes, meetups with industry professionals, and live shows featuring various artists. Additionally, Burlington lost a well-known local character, Byrdman, who was struck and killed by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle. Byrdman was a familiar face in the local music scene, often performing at open-mic nights at Radio Bean. A memorial for Byrdman was held at Radio Bean to honor his memory. Last week, photographer Luke Awtry captured live music highlights, including a performance by the Noah Kesey Magic Band at Muddy Waters in Burlington. The band delivered a memorable cover of Coldplay’s “Yellow,” and the set featured songs from Kesey’s new album. Muddy Waters has recently started hosting rock shows, with plans for more live entertainment in the works. Overall, the music scene in Vermont continues to thrive with initiatives like GRRRLS 2 the Front, while the community remembers and celebrates the life of unique and beloved figures like Byrdman.
