On the Beat: Fresh Music Releases from Vermont

Lily Seabird, a Burlington-based singer-songwriter, has joined Philadelphia’s Lame-O Records and plans to release the vinyl version of her album Alas on November 15, 2024, alongside an EP of acoustic tracks and new songs. The album was warmly received, with a review highlighting its exploration of vulnerability and healing. To celebrate, she released the previously unheard single "Fuckhead," a nostalgic acoustic piece she wrote at 16 for her high school friend.

The Burlington folk-hop duo, the Middle Ages, has also made waves with their new single "Cult Life," which features comedic raps dedicated to their community. Set to premiere a music video at the Double E Performance Center on October 18, the duo, along with local artists Dan and Taraleigh Weathers, will provide a live performance and a short play about the song’s inspiration.

Additionally, the Moondogs, a psychedelic funk jam band, will release their next LP Trialogues on November 8, following the debut of their single "Colorado."

The local hip-hop label AfterLyfe Music is rounding off 2024 with several releases. The first is SINNN’s EP Art N Depression, which examines the struggles of creative expression and showcases collaborations from various artists. Following this, the label will drop Konflik’s live album recorded at a July performance, LIVE in the Cellar, which captures the vibrant atmosphere of their events, complemented by two upcoming studio singles from Konflik.

Lastly, the Burlington music scene has been lively, with events like Matt Hagen’s Murder Ballads gaining popularity as a new Halloween tradition, featuring original songs and classic tales performed in unique styles.
